Highlights from Austen & Turner: A Country House Encounter

Friday, October 3, 1:00-2:15 p.m. ET

Presented by Beckie Burton; Moderated by Curt DiCamillo

Join Beckie Burton, Curator & Archivist at Harewood House in Yorkshire, England, to explore its newest exhibition celebrating the 250th anniversaries of two British cultural icons, novelist Jane Austen (1775-1817) and artist JMW Turner (1775-1851). For the very first time, the work of these two legendary creatives have been brought together, revealing their shared interest in the social and cultural life of the British country house. Featuring a range of highlights from the show, this talk will explore Austen’s & Turner’s creative interpretations of the country house and consider how their legacies continue to shape our understanding of this world today.
