The Pilgrim Robert Cushman wrote a short book which criticized the Church of England, expressed many Biblical reasons for Separation, and encouraged other Christians to separate.  He wrote in 1619 but his book was not published until 1642 after his death in Benenden, Kent in 1625.  The book gives Pilgrim enthusiasts an insight into the religious thinking of the Pilgrims near the time they sailed on the Mayflower in 1620.

Cushman concluded that “it is a sequestration, and not a reformation that will heale us, helpe us, and give us a right Church estate for to joyne unto.”

We thank Michael R. Paulick for his generosity in providing the PDF of Robert Cushman’s The Cry of A Stone.
